After showing off the gorgeously printed wedding invitations, I was really looking forward to sharing the details of the huge interior illustration that takes pride of place inside the flaps of the invite.

For those interested, the whole illustration took about six months, and at least 336 hours, much of which went into the trees, which I cloned from a smaller patch of hand-drawn trees, and then stitched together to create a seamless pattern. Each of the individual features are also hand illustrated using references (some are less rushed than others, which I think shows).

The illustration is far larger than required, as we’ll be getting a larger version printed to have framed. And it’ll even be on display at the reception.

So now that people are starting to receive them… let’s talk about the wedding invites I did for Melissa and myself.

Digitally printed in full colour on 340gsm card, these are possibly the current peak of my design portfolio (don’t you love it when you get to save the best for yourself?). I spent several (as in more than 6) months on the illustrations for this, and a good portion of that is for the internal image.

Originally the image was more tied in to the design, and would have featured the details for the venues, but with a little bit of laziness and some rethinking, we decided to go with a layout that truly shows off the hard work that I put into these babies.

And the response has been amazing. So far I’ve had two people tell me that these are the best wedding invitations they’ve ever seen (hire me), and everyone has spent several minutes looking at the tiny details on the interior illustration. That alone makes me proud.

I’ll be publishing a post with some segments of the interior illustration in the next few days. So if you’re hoping to get a better look, then fear not… and stay tuned! I’ve published full-size sections of the interior illustration. Head to that post to check them out!

You can also see this in it’s full-size glory.

Today I released the website for our wedding into the world, including this super special little RSVP setup I put together over a few days. I just wanted to share it because I’m a tad proud of how smooth it is.

There’s also some stuff the video doesn’t show: first of all, you can change your mind and redo the process as many times as you want using the same code. Second of all, we instantly get an email to tell us your response and who is coming, so we can make the arrangements!

The invitations will officially go out by the end of next week. If you’re reading this and you don’t get one, then I’m sorry. Maybe next time? Also, weddings are expensive… please cut us some slack.
